On 12 July 2025, UNESCO inscribed Sardinia’s domus de janas on the World Heritage List — making eighteen prehistoric rock-cut tomb sites the 61st Italian site recognized. Carved between 4000 and 2700 BC, these “fairy houses” are the most distinctive funerary monuments of pre-Nuragic Sardinia, scattered across the island in over 2,400 catalogued examples.
